Time for a dip at your hotel
Your travels take you into the heart of the Pyrenees today and to your comfortable base over the Ara River. The hotel has an inviting swimming pool, a good restaurant and even its own 17th-century chapel. It has also recently been taken back into local ownership, so it has a greater sense of place than ever. The mountains of Ordesa National Park feel close here.

Staying here, you are also just a five-minute drive from the atmospheric and lively medieval old town of Aínsa, a member of the most beautiful towns in Spain club.

Later today our lovely local host will come to meet you and go over all the details of your trip with you. They then remain a call away for any support you need that cannot be resolved with your hotel and guides.

To help you settle in, we include dinner at your hotel tonight.
You have lots of options to get to the Pyrenees. Bilbao and Barcelona are 3-4 hours away by road and both can be reached by train from London via Paris if you prefer not to fly in one or both directions. Zaragoza is 2 hours and can be reached by fast train from Madrid. If you would like a night or two in a city before or after your trip, simply let me know.

Hotel Monasterio de Boltaña

Hotel Monasterio de Boltaña is a much larger property than we tend to use but that's partly because it is an old monastery - a grand stone building in a spectacular location a few kilometres along the road from Ainsa. Previously a Barcélo property it has great facilities such as a spa, gym and large outdoor pool. It's the pool which is the superpower of this place, and a rarity in these parts. It's a lovely way to cool off and relax at the end of a day in the mountains. Rooms at the hotel are decorated in a fairly traditional style, lots of stone and wood - nice and calming on a bright day, somewhat For families, we tend to prefer the villa suites which are set off to the side of the property - more space & privacy with two separate bedrooms and bathrooms. As much as we like the fact that the hotel was taken back into local ownership in 2024 it has led to service being a little less consistent - notably in the shoulder/winter season. We find that it's still the best option for families in the Ordesa/Ainsa area - the landscapes and activities make a stay here very well worthwhile.
