Barcelona, Madrid & Seville by Train
Day 4
Madrid
Do some final sightseeing in Barcelona, perhaps visiting another Gaudí masterpiece, before taking the fast train to Madrid.
Colourful vista from Parc Güell
Inside Gaudí's famous Sagrada Familia
Atocha's famous tropical garden
Arriving at your new base in Madrid
If you've never been to Barcelona and have your sights set on some of its more famous spots, this morning you could experience some more Gaudí magic before you head off to Madrid.

Top of your list might be the still-unfinished-but-still-remarkable Sagrada Familia. Further north is the quite bonkers Park Güell garden city, where Guadí's imagination truly ran wild, though they never quite finished this one either. Either can be visited independently or with a guide, but booking ahead is essential. If you'd like us to include a visit to either this morning, just let me know.

This afternoon you'll be carried across the plains to the very centre of Spain in less than three hours. Arriving at Madrid's Atocha station, with its grand tropical garden, you simply walk out of the station and cross the road to your next hotel. With its lively cafe, walls adorned with 3D relief maps from across Spain and even its own barber shop (yes, really) it's one of the city's more memorable hotels. And the location is just perfect.

Only You Hotel Atocha

In Madrid, our favourite hotel is called Only You Boutique. Bit of a silly name, but a bit of a great hotel. Most importantly, you are wonderfully located here. If you are arriving by train, as soon as you come out of the station the hotel is right there in front of you, so it's maybe 10 minutes from the train pulling in to you dropping your bags. From the airport, the bus drops you off right outside the hotel, so that's easy too. When you leave the hotel, you have the metro in front of you to reach anywhere in the city, whilst the Retiro Park and the museum district are a leisurely stroll away. But it's not just about location...

The hotel oozes personality and the staff are so friendly. Rooms are very well equipped and the beds are so comfy you'll struggle to get up in the morning. When you do, you'll be heading up for the most abundant breakfast imaginable with everything from fresh smoked salmon to indulgent chocolate truffles and fresh eggs cooked to order. From up here you have views over Madrid as the city wakes up. Downstairs is a very stylish but relaxed bar/cafe area with a cracking restaurant if you don't want to venture out again. Oh, and there's also a barbers if you need a trim. Seriously, you can get your hair cut here. A gem of a hotel
