It's a short transfer to the train station to collect your car this morning. Leaving Barcelona you'll head up into the Montserrat Natural Park, home to a fabled Benedictine abbey tucked away in a massif of rounded limestone towers.

It is a breathtaking sight to behold even if you just wandered about a bit. But with us, you'll have all the access and insider knowledge you need to make today special.

It's one thing to admire the hushed beauty of the abbey, quite another to feel the power of its acoustics as the choirboys fill the air with haunting song. Taking in the might of the mountains from ground level is satisfying enough, but riding the funicular up above the crinkled green hills to walk between quiet chapels reveals vistas you'll never forget. Walking back down as the abbey and the towers glow in the afternoon light brings a majesty all of its own.

Later you'll finish at your next hotel, a stunning 5-room Modernist house on a historic family winery in the Cava wine region.

Hotel Boutique Bolet Casa Modernista

Your hotel in the Penedés region is a beautifully restored modernist house in the heart of a working traditional winery. With just five rooms, Casa Bolét is beautifully small and has a true family home feel, not least because of how welcome Mireia and her team make you feel. The house dates back to 1911 and was recently restored with an extraordinary artistic flair that extends even to the toilets, of which they are particularly proud! An inviting swimming pool sits on a natural balcony looking out over vineyards, olive groves and stone villages.

Each morning Mireia buys artisan bread from the local bakers for breakfast. Whilst there is no dinner service, there are some very good options for lunch and dinner within walking distance or a short taxi ride away.

Vines have been grown on the estate for 400 years and the house remains at the heart of a traditional working winery.
