Day 10
Aigüestortes NP
Swap the winelands for mountain country as you travel into the foothills of the Pyrenees.

Great food and wine at the Terra Hotel
You say goodbye to your hosts today and point your car north, heading into the foothills of the Pyrenees.

On the way, we suggest you call it at Lleida, the biggest inland city in Catalonia and home to one of its most impressive historical sites. The photo you see above is the remains of a Middle Age fort of Moorish origin, in the middle of which the Christians built the soaring Seu Vella - a Gothic cathedral begun in 1203.

Back on the road, continue north to your small, stylish hotel just south of the mountains. Before reaching it though, you might stop for a short walk through a bird-rich forest which leads to a splendid viewpoint over the river valley below.

Enjoy the delights of Maribel's cookery this evening.

Hotel Terra

Sitting on the lower edge of a small village, Hotel Terra is nothing if not surprising. Its dramatically modern architecture looks out over the countryside but the angular modernity manages to be incredibly comfortable, helped by the wonderful hosts. With just four very comfortable rooms, this is a small gem of a place. The food, breakfast or dinner, is something to behold as well...quite how Meribel makes this stuff in what is essentially a domestic kitchen is beyond comprehension.
