Spend today walking through the beautiful alpine scenery of the Aigüestortes National Park. The name means ‘twisted waters’ because the park is full of lakes, streams and waterfalls as well as high peaks and wide valleys.
To get into the park, you drive to a nearby village from where you are taken up to the entrance by national park taxi, it's a fixed departure and arrival point so all very simple and a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views as you are driven up into the park.
The path along the valley floor again offers great options for easy, moderate and challenging walking - it simply depends where you want to turn around.
For the easy walk, follow the wide track as far as the open meadows. To push yourself, continue uphill towards the lake of Estany Llong. For a real challenge, push up to the pass which divides the park - incredible mountain views all around.
Walking options from easy to challenging, 9km - 19km.
Coming out of the park, have lunch down in the village before making your way to the nearby church of Sant Climent. The Romanesque churches of the Boi Valley (where you are) have been declared UNESCO world heritage sites, this church is the jewel in the crown. Back in the early 20th century, the frescoes were removed for protection to be displayed in the national museum of Catalonia in Barcelona.
Using the original frescoes, and remarkable 3D scanning and rendering, you can now see a projection of the originals inside the church of Sant Climent. It's played once an hour, hard to describe but impossible to miss - you simply must go.
